Hi. I grow a goatee but have trouble keeping it neatly trimmed. Half the time I just can't be bothered. I bought a cheap beard trimmer but had mixed results. Any suggestions?

Frank.

Response from Carl: Thanks Frank. Like you, I have a goatee and have tried various methods to trim it. When I first started growing one, I used a pair of hair scissors to trim it manually as I figured that might be the best way to do so.

I switched to a beard trimmer and that worked for a few years until the battery (it was a rechargeable unit) wore out and I had to buy a new one and couldn't find the same model. I bought another brand and like the one you bought, it didn't work out so well. It was a crummy unit and in hindsight I probably should have brought it back to the store for a refund but didn't bother.

I currently use the beard trimmer that pops out of the Philips 7340 electric shaver that I bought a few months ago. I'm actually finding that it works quite well. I'd always avoided using the pop up beard trimmer from any electric shaver I've ever owned because I figured that since it doesn't have a length selector, I'd be trimming my goatee at all different lengths. One of the benefits of a beard trimmer that has length attachments is that you can select the length of your goatee which the electric shaver beard trimmer doesn't have. Having said that, I will probably keep using the pop up beard trimmer from my Philips shaver for the foreseeable future.
